…The conference examined how energy security shapes geopolitics and access to energy for countries such as India. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Megha Shenoy, co-author of the article 'Indian Energy Policy and Strategy: Pre- and Post - Copenhagen 2009', stated “If India is to leapfrog to a path of sustainable and inclusive development, it must change its fundamental development paradigm from gross national product maximization to minimizing the number of people below the poverty line. This will have enormous implications for optimal management of energy, water and material resources”. Swiss and Indian experts debated on today’s energy policy options in developing countries and emerging economies, also questioning the role of international development cooperation in this sector.

This conference also provided an opportunity for the Swiss scholars and institutes to explore and strengthen their ties with Indian partners. 'Energy is a critical sector in India facing multiple challenges; we look forward to the Indo-Swiss institutional connections made today to jointly find solutions to some of these problems' added Dr. Silvia Hostettler, Executive Director, swissnex India.
